WebFeb 24, 2008 · I am extremely happy to say that the Crate VC20 is heavily considered to be one of the best I have ever played through. Its an overall bargain, versatile, tube amp. My next thing to try is experimenting with changing the tubes and the speaker, although for now I’m happy enough already. WebMar 22, 2024 · Some mods I make to all Vintage Club Crates (unless the owner prefers nails-on-chalkboard highs) is to remove brightening cap across the volume control, or "peaking" cap as on the VC20, that's C3. With the hi end tamed a bit, it brings out the mids and lows with little further effort. I'd be careful not to overdo C1 value.

It takes pedals decent but a little "fartty" when using the amps gain or tubes natural break up. the speaker is fine and I am going to replace the tubes but they dont seem that old, they have been replaced.
