WebThe pool at Bethesda was thought by people in Jesus’ day to have some kind of healing power. Apparently the water was stirred occasionally by an angel but was likely simply a spring that . bubbled up now and then. It was believed that if a sick or disabled person could get into the water while it was moving in that way, he or she would be healed. WebJesus’ relationship with the Father (it is a sign after all), and this feels quite basic. So each of the sermons went afield from the text to find things to talk about. Dennis talked about the history of the pool, which is quite interesting, but not central. Keller talked about the ways we seek “healing” (wholeness) apart from Jesus. So e.g.:
